So here’s an idea which I will try to implement this week:

1) Obtain RSS feed of Google’s hourly Hot Trends

2) Grab the first two or three

3) Search Google News, or Blog Search for content on the above hot trends

4) Post resulting topics to a set of autoblogs (different blog each hour)

5) Monetize… PROFIT!

Should be simple enough to code with PHP and a crontab entry. Any bright ideas on monetizing (apart from Adsense of course)?

OK so I’ve finally got round to publishing my ebayoutube mashup script for anyone to use. I’ve also added another dynamic product feed courtesy of Affiliate Future. You can see the latest version in action at http://smartphonereview.co.uk

ABOUT:

A simple mashup script based around RSS product feeds.
Generates a keyword-themed website with Youtube Adsense video, Adsense text ads, eBay products, affiliate products, and news feeds from Google and Yahoo. All links to products generate affiliate commissions.

I’m offering the script as a free download to anyone who wants it. Installation is as easy as I could make it. All you have to do is customise a few variables and insert your own adsense code.

(I should point out that the script is keyed to UK products and news only. If you want to gear it to another country it shouldn’t be too hard to edit the RSS feed data and affiliate programmes.)

To get hold of your copy just enter your email address below. Don’t worry - I won’t spam you or try to sell you anything. It’s just away of keeping you informed of script updates and any new scripts I come up with.

Get it here:

If you have any problems (or suggestions) feel free to leave a comment on this post. I’m not offering much in the way of official support, since it’s free, but I’ll do my best to help out.

Note: If you’re not a member of Affiliate Future you can just cut that section out. However, I included it in there to avoid being Google-slapped for duplicate content. By having both the AF and eBay products in there you end up generating ‘new’ content. That’s also why there’s both Google AND Yahoo news feeds. The more content sources you can pull in the better your ranking will be.

Haha, I did it.

Front page of Google.co.uk for the keywords Smartphone Review. It’s the last result on the page, mind, but not bad for… what, 4 days since it went live?

P.S. Goddamn, I hate tzping on a German kezboard.

Holy shit, there it is. Someone clicked on my adsense tower on Smartphone Review UK and generated $1.20 for me. Not bad for a single click.

And particularly not bad considering it hasn’t even been picked up by the search engines yet. It’s only been live for two days.

Smartphone Review is a bit of an experiment on two fronts for me. First, it’s a mashup. The whole site is generated by taking a search term (or else a default keyword) and grabbing feeds from Youtube-Adsense, eBay searches and GoogleNews. Income is derived from eBay, adsense and a CPA or two.

Secondly, I’m generating links to it using Squidoo, Hubpages, Blogspot etc. and a magnificent tool called OnlyWire, which submits to a bunch of social bookmarking sites all at once. Hopefully this will kick-start my search engine rankings.

I pretty much got the idea from two sources. First, Mark from 45n5 published a Youtube-eBay-Amazon mashup which looks impressive, but being the simpleton that I am I couldn’t get it to work properly. Secondly, Ruck from Cashtactics talked about Aggressive Article Marketing in which he discussed the advantages of creating a site that generates thousands of pages rather than creating a site with a few manually constructed pages.

So there was my inspiration. I decided to create my own mashup. It ended up looking similar to Mark’s but is nowhere near as sophisticated (plus it doesn’t use Amazon). All it does is grab RSS feeds (you have to insert adsense code manually, but that automatically matches your content of course), so there’s no need to worry about API keys or anything like that. All you need is a Commission Junction PID for the eBay feed and BANG you have your affiliate product list.

I’m going to Germany for a week tomorrow, but if I get a chance I’ll publish the script here for people to download and use. Just need to write some simple instructions.

Apparently everyone who makes money online needs to have a blog, so this is mine.

I vowed never to use Wordpress because it tends to die after about 12 diggs, but fortunately there’s little chance of any diggs coming my way so I should be safe. Plus I’m told there are a bunch of useful monetizing plugins for this platform.

Now I’ve just got to figure out how the damn thing works.
